5: Someone you wish you were related to

Being related to Círdan is regrettably impossible, since as best as I can tell he’s unbegotten. But I just want to say that Círdan is by far the best Elven ruler in the history of Middle-earth, and the only one I have never wanted to punch in the face.1 

Also, the Silmarillion totally doesn’t do justice to his story. Círdan doesn’t remain in Middle-earth just at the behest of Ossë – or, at least, if it’s Ossë, he doesn’t convince him using normal human skills like persuasion. Instead, he remains to search for Elwe, his kinsman, and when he returns to the shore his only hope is to at last depart for Valinor. He’s built his own boat and is resolving to set out, when:
