Letters | Círdan & Poppy

poppybrownlock:

Poppy felt much relief at his words, and she padded over towards him happily. If he said that it would be no bother, then she would believe him. After all, there was no reason that he should tell her a falsehood about something so simple.

At the doorway, the half-ling paused. What would she like to see first? Círdan had said she might see anything she wished, but there was nothing that Poppy could think of that she truly wanted to see at first. She’d already seen the kitchens, which had been quite impressive and lovely. Poppy had also already seen portions of the harbor upon her arrival, before she had struck up a conversation with the ellon. There was still much to see, however, and suddenly she knew exactly what it was that she would like to be shown first.

“Might I see where the ships are, please? Either where they are made, or where they are kept. I think it would be interesting to see a vessel like the one Rossiel sailed upon.”

“Of course you might,” he brightened at the idea of being able to show her the ships.  One was completed and the insides were decorated as well, it was not often that one of those was remaining in the harbor.  There were the fishing boats and others meant for speed and defense should it be needed, but this one was more important in its own right.

Círdan waited for her to put her things down and join him before he started to lead the way from the guest halls and to one of the main stone streets that would serpentine down to the sea wall.  "The first one I am going to show you is exactly like the one Rossiel was on,“ but he made a note not to mention that the skeleton of one that was still piled upon the shore was the remains of the very one she had set out upon.  That would be upsetting to the small Hobbit, it would be upsetting to anyone really.

"I can also show you others but you have splendid timing and can see one ere it departs and has already been completed,” he grinned down to her as they walked.
