Mother had kept the brooch for as long as he could remember, but she and Little Octy thought Cirdan could use it more than they could! But Little Octy couldn’t take the brooch to Uncle Strange Elf himself. He was just a little octopus! So he’d asked a bird to do it, after giving her a crab. Little Octy watched the nice bird fly away, tentacles waving goodbye to her.

True to her word, the bird gently dropped the brooch onto Cirdan’s desk and flew away.

The birds didn’t normally find their way indoors so he was startled when one swooped over head in his room.  He thought perhaps it had dropped a shell or a crab, but then the stones caught in the light.  He set down the quill and picked up the brooch, smiling as it immediately made him think of the precious little octopus that lived in the nearby tidal pool.

Quickly he picked up the quill, making a note to himself for later to take some treats to him and his mother.
