The Calm Before the Storm

masteroftheseas:

“A lot,” Ossë whispered. He turned his face into Círdan’s shoulder, muffling his voice a bit. “He doesn’t know I have a silmaril, for starters. Or that my usual fana is a bit faulty. He doesn’t know many of the things I have done.”

Low whines filled the silence until he lifted his head and looked to Círdan with a light frown. “That’s part of why I wished to speak with you. Already I’ve warned Olwë to keep people from the shore tonight, and I wanted to give you that same warning. There will be storms tonight.” He was tense, because those storms that rocked the coast would be directed at him and they were all the more terrifying up-close and deep down. “He’s going to be angry and hurt. But my hope is that this will be a first step towards healing. If I get everything out in the open, perhaps we can finally move forward.”

He looked down at his lap again, lips pulling into a smile that didn’t quite manage to reach his eyes. “Which is part of my gift to you, too, in a way.”

“Meleth,” the word escaped on a soft sigh as he pressed a kiss to the top of the silver crowned head.  The first two were two very large secrets and the fact that they were connected would certainly not go over well for Ossë.

Normally, Círdan did not spend his time worrying for the safety or well-being of the maia.  He was a fierce opponent and more than capable of handling himself, the first time he really ever felt true fear for the other was when he arrived burned and broken.  It had not sunk in prior to then that such injuries could truly harm him.  Now the thought of him revealing things that would undoubtedly upset Ulmo was enough to strike the same fear into him once more.  His grip tightened ever so slightly, turning from a gentle embrace to one that spoke more of protection.  "I will keep them from the shore and do what I might to protect the ships further,“ he promised.  If they feared it would reach both shores, it was certainly going to be ugly.

"If my gift is Ulmo’s wrath, I might have to decline it,” he teased but his tone was dry.  His nerves were still set on edge.
