masteroftheseas:

Soft chirps and coos were like a soundtrack for Círdan’s words as Ossë blinked owlishly. Always loved the sea… he truly was a moron, wasn’t he? All the times that Círdan had said his heart was with the sea, or he loved the sea, and he’d always thought it was a poetic comment on the actual coastline. He huffed and took a breath to reply, only to be cut off with a kiss.

A low hum vibrated through him as he slid his eyes shut and smiled into the kiss. He’d been so worried all those years that there would be awkwardness, or discomfort, or they wouldn’t work well together, yet here they were and it was as if they’d been doing this for centuries. For the first time in a while he stopped thinking and wondering and worrying and pressed against Círdan, feeling his heart beat against his chest and the warmth of his body melt into his own. He parted his lips and swiped his tongue across Círdan’s for a taste and a tease before he tipped his head to break the kiss.

“Can you forgive me for making you wait so long?” he breathed, smile still curling his lips as he looked between his eyes. He lifted a hand to stroke the backs of his fingers across his cheekbone before sliding back to stroke small circles behind his ear. “I always thought you were waiting for one of your kind, for someone else, and did not want to stop you from finding your happiness.”

He trilled softly, a happy and excited sound that spoke his grin. “I love you. I have for a very long time.”

“How many times must I tell you that I have wanted for nothing and have been content?” he tried to sound exasperated but he could not for the smile.  Círdan had never ruled out the idea of loving another, but he had not made it a valiant quest to find someone.  It was never a driving force in his life as he often had more pressing tasks at hand.  He had always been surrounded by those he loved and respected and loved and respected him return.  "I have been happy, I am happy,“ he insisted.  "I was denied nothing, I have been tormented by naught and always I have had you,” the details of it did not particularly matter.

Long had he been proud to hear Ossë announce that he loved him but it had been in the context of being one of his elves or a brother of the sea, as he had been dubbed, but this was different.  He could not think of the right words that matched the elation he felt hearing those words.  It had never dawned on him how moving they could be to hear when reciprocated as they were.  "Im meleth le,“ he breathed the words even as he hugged the other close to him.

After a few heartbeats, his arms relaxed and he was content once more just to stay nestled close with the maia, their legs tangled together.  He tipped his head up enough to bump their noses together gently, eyes closing from the soothing feeling of fingers behind his ear.
